For Kassandra “Kassy” Cedillo-Garcia and Jeremy Schuman, owning a home in Lac du Flambeau was a dream years in the making. After seven years of renting and facing challenges with income, credit history, and finding a lender, they found a path forward with the Wisconsin Native Loan Fund.
WINLF worked with the family throughout the process, from homebuyer education and pre-approval to helping them navigate their options and ultimately finance the construction of their new home. In August 2024, they closed on their loan and began building a home of their own. Today, Kassy, Jeremy, and their son, Xander, are settled into the home they built on the Lac du Flambeau reservation.
Their story was recently featured by Opportunity Finance Network (OFN) as an example of the impact that mission-driven lending can have in Native communities. We’re proud to have played a part in helping this family put down roots and build a future in their community.
